5 Day Resilience & Mindfulness Camp 2014

We have just completed 3 runs of our Resilience & Mindfulness Camp this November/December holiday.

The children spent about 2 – 3 hours of classroom time each day where they engaged in experiential learning with lots of activities and group sharing. Some of the skills they took away from this camp were – Breathing techniques, effective listening, relationship skills (maintaining healthy relationship based on cooperation and resolving personal conflicts), perspective taking, gratitude as well as how the brain processes information and is biologically wired to react under stress.

They also took part in other activities such as horse riding, kids yoga, creative arts, and Brazilian Capoeira & drumming. 

We hope all the children had fun during the camp, as the facilitators sure had a wonderful time interacting and learning with them!

We look forward to our next camp in June 2015!

.b Mindfulness in Schools Project

The Open Centre is excited to bring you .b,  a mindfulness program for youth.  We deliver .in private groups, schools and organisations.

Mindfulness practice is a way of paying attention to, and seeing clearly whatever is happening in our lives. This helps us to respond to life in a calmer manner, cultivating clarity, insight and understanding. Practicing mindfulness allow us to be fully present in our life and work, and improve our quality of life.

.b is a mindfulness program that is carefully crafted by experienced classroom teachers and mindfulness practitioners. It is suited for a wide range of contexts and age ranges, including adults. It is taught using striking visuals, film clips and activities that bring mindfulness to life without losing the expertise and integrity of mindfulness teaching.

At the most simple level, .b is an awareness-raising exercise to give all individuals a taste of mindfulness so that they know about it and can return to it later in life if they choose to do so.

However for many people, the course can lead to immediate and striking results including, feeling happier, calmer and more fulfilled, getting along better with others, able to concentrate and learn better, and being able to cope with stress and anxiety more efficiently.
